Taken Yoga Before?
If you took a Beginner class but haven't been practicing for a year or more, we suggest you enroll in the Foundation series. If you consider yourself a Yoga practitioner, please call us to discuss the classes where you might feel most comfortable.
Continuing Practice Classes
Students who have completed a basic Foundation series in Yoga have several options. The Practice of Yoga is daily - sometimes alone, sometimes in the company of others. Namaste's Practice classes are asana and meditation practice. Classes have a different focus each month, are designed for each season and help you discover your physical, energetic, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects. The Yamas and Niyamas are offered for consideration in the practice as well. Students completing Foundation I or students new to Namaste should begin General Practice the first week of the month because the "lesson" for the month is introduced then. Practice classes are just that...opportunities to practice! Attending classes continues to enrich your Yoga practice. Please sign up for classes a week in advance, if possible. If Namaste cancels your class, you will be notified by phone or email. Please consult this web site for additional information.Cancellations are appreciated no later than 24 hours before the scheduled class. Failure to cancel may result in charges for the missed class. Classes with fewer than 6 enrolled may be canceled. Call 217-698-8177 for information.
General Practice
Choose General Practice (1¼ hours) if you are new to Yoga or to Namaste or you are an occasional practitioner. General Practice expects knowledge of the foundation concepts including breath and body awareness, how to care for the body/mind in practice, and how to move in and out of poses safely. Over the year, expect to learn to practice vinyasa, to move deeper into postures, such as Cobra I and Bridge, and to strengthen the body. You will also practice Ujjayi and Nadi Shodana pranayama, learned in Foundation II.| 2008 General Practice Class Schedule | |

We chant each verse in its original Sanskrit and discuss root meanings and multiple interpretations of each word and verse of the text.
